My Review Policy (or what to expect if you send me a book)

I read a lot of books, but I don’t review them all. While I do accept copies of books that I did not request (at least I’m trying that out for now, contact me if you would like to send me your book), I will not guarantee that I will post a review for all of them. The books that I choose to post reviews for on this site are books that I have personally enjoyed and/or books that I see an audience for.

In other words, I review books that I want other readers to know about so that they too can spread the word and, perhaps eventually that book will make its way into the hands of someone that would never have picked it up on their own. If I do post a review of a book that I have received from an author or publisher, then I will state this in some way in the review or in the post’s tags. In general, my reviews will include:

  • a book summary
  • analysis of the book’s distinguishing features and/or mention of the book’s drawbacks
  • a few quotes to provide a sense of the author’s style
  • ideas for read alikes, ideas about potential audiences, and/or ideas about uses for the book (programming, curricular, etc.)

My purpose for writing reviews is to raise awareness of great books and to play a role in helping match books to readers. With this in mind, I will mainly be writing reviews for recently published literature, although I reserve the right to occasionally wax eloquent (or at least wax with prolixity) about old-favorites of mine.
